As a preschooler when Mom read “The Little Engine that Could” to us at bedtime I had no idea how significant and powerful that message would become for me. For those of you who don’t know the story it was a children’s story where several large engines were “asked” to pull a long train over a mountain. They all refused except for a very small engine who said that he would try and when he did he repeated as a mantra I-think-I-can, I-think-I-can through the entire -ultimately successful-journey.
In my coaching practice I often see my clients succeed at tasks that they promised me were impossible for them. Every spiritual and self-help expert tells us the same thing. We are who we think we are…we can become who we choose to be.
Mary Kay Ash tells us, “If you think you can, you can. And if you think you can’t, you’re right”.

Many of our new year and new decade resolutions are about fresh starts…we are going to eat healthier and exercise more. We are going to save more money and/or at least spend less money, give time or money to charity, etc.
My Mom will be glad to hear that I am finally old enough to understand that she is often right. I am going to continue the job that she started by feeding my mind healthy empowering thoughts. I am working on my 2010 Vision Board that will clearly show all of the amazing people and places on my path in 2010, along with all the amazing accomplishments I know that I can complete.
I would love to hear your ideas for an empowering start to the year!
